On new year’s eve, Coach Swinney was honored as the winner of the Bobby Dodd FBS National Coach of the Year award, announced on ESPN during half-time show of the Chick-fil-A Bowl.  ”It is an honor to win an award named after the legendary Bobby Dodd, who did so much for college football. I am humbled to be the recipient of this award,” said Swinney.

The Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award is annually presented to the Football Subdivision head coach whose team excels on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The award is named for Bobby Dodd, the longtime head coach at Georgia Tech. It was established in 1976 to honor the values that Dodd exemplified.

When you think of great golf in South Carolina, you most likely conjure up an image of the coast.  Teeing up with an ocean breeze in your hair.  Beach vacations, and so on.  However, golfers everywhere – including the Golf Digest ratings team – are beginning to notice that the Upstate region of South Carolina has a lot to offer golfers, as well.  Upstate courses present an enticing change of pace that includes challenging topography, cooler temperatures, open water views of mountain lakes like Lake Keowee, and views of the Blue Ridge mountain range. 

Ranked as #21 in Golf Digest’s 2011 list of the ‘Best in State,’ the Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course at The Reserve at Lake Keowee is a prime example of great South Carolina golf.  A Par 72, laying out at 7,112 yards, Jack Nicklaus takes note of the natural beauty preserved in his Lake Keowee project: “I really co-designed the course with Mother Nature—complementing the gorgeous, natural features already here. It was my job to find the course hidden in the hills along the lake.”

Club Communications: “Stepping it up a Notch”
The 2011 Calendar of Events has more activities than ever before, and we know it’s hard for you to keep up with it! So, we are adding yet another way to communicate with alerts that go straight to your mobile phone.

The Reserve at Lake Keowee Club is in the process of asking our Members to sign up for our newest communication effort; “Mobile Messaging,” commonly known as “Texting.”

We understand how important it is to stay in touch with you, and we do realize that checking email is not always convenient. Starting this month, we will be implementing a text message broadcast system as a more effective way to communicate urgent messages, updates and other important information… right to your pocket! 

How to Sign Up and Customize your Alerts:
With the Text Broadcast System you will have the opportunity to customize the text messages that are of interest to you and your family.  Very much like you can do with our Club Broadcast E-Mail system. The subscription process is completed simply by sending a text from your cell phone. The number of texts that are sent out will be limited.  If you sign up to receive notifications from all departments you may receive 3 to 5 messages a week.  There is an option at the bottom of each text message received to stop the messages at any time.

Katie records the runners' time at the 2010 Apple-A-Day 5K

Congratulations to Katie for earning her CIFT from the American College of Sports Medicine!

Katie Felton encourages us to keep a healthy, active lifestyle as she oversees all wellness activities for The Reserve at Lake Keowee Club! But Katie isn’t just a motivator, she’s a trained professional. She holds her Masters Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Clemson University, and is a certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and Health and Fitness Specialist (HSF). Her latest accomplishment is earning her designation as an ACSM/NCPAD Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer, abbreviated as CIFT.

The two bodies that sponsor the certification are ACSM which is the American College of Sports Medicine (www.acsm.org) and NCPAD which is the National Center on Physical Activity and Disability (www.ncpad.org). The  CIFT is defined as a fitness professional capable of developing and implementing individualized exercise programs for persons who may have a physical, sensory or cognitive disability, who is healthy or has medical clearance to perform independent physical activity.

To sit for the CIFT exam you are required to hold a current NCCA-accredited health/fitness certification, CPR and AED certifications, have knowledge of exercise physiology as well as exercise testing and programming, knowledge in inclusive facility design and awareness of social inclusion for people with disabilities and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). You should also be able to demonstrate and lead safe, effective and adapted methods of exercise, write adapted exercise recommendations, understand adapted methods of exercise, and understand precautions and contraindications to exercise for people with disabilities and standards for accessible facility design.

This is a huge accomplishment for Katie, and an added benefit for Reserve Members who rely on her expertise and encouragement.

The Reserve at Lake Keowee Members are very excited about the recent announcement of the Legacy Membership. We’re hearing nothing but rave reviews, and getting a lot of questions about how to sign up and get started!  

Legacy Membership Overview:
In a nutshell, the Legacy Membership is simply an extension of your privileges as a Full or Premier Member of The Reserve at Lake Keowee Club. That’s right—now your family members can be added to your membership account and receive full access to the property and all The Reserve amenities… that includes golfing, boating, dining, lodging, and even inviting their own guests. The Legacy Membership privileges only extend vertically in your lineage, so your parents, grandparents, children and grandchildren can all take advantage. However, the Legacy Membership does not apply to your siblings, aunts and uncles, etc.

No waiting! Beginning immediately, the Legacy membership is available to all Full/Premier Members. The Primary member can now register their  family and extend all member privileges to the following family members:

To take advantage of the member privileges your family members must be registered in advance. Registration is simple, but each additional member must have their picture taken at the Concierge desk or email a photo and complete the official registration form.  Forms and pictures should be returned to Becky Weedman, Membership Coordinator, at becky@reservekeowee.com or fax forms to 864-869-2110.

Apple Bobbing! A fun (and tasty!) way to celebrate the crop harvested from The Reserve Orchard.

The Reserve at Lake Keowee kicked off the Fall Season in a big way with the Fall Festival Weekend celebration that included a Apple-a-Day 5K Run/Walk, Fall Festival, Oyster Roast, Live Music and more! 

The Great Lawn was alive with the rush of family activities, kids games, great food, and village hayrides! Artists and craftsmen from all around the Blue Ridge  and Lake Keowee area (Greenville, Asheville, Cashiers, Clemson) demonstrated their talents in along the veranda of The Reserve at Lake Keowee Orchard House.

After the excitement of the Fall Festival, residents and guests took the opportunity to unwind in the casual atmosphere of the annual Oyster Roast  for an evening of dancing and dining in the fresh autumn air!
