Video and Photos: 2nd Annual “Jingle All the Way” Boat Caroling on Lake Keowee

Ho Ho Ho Your Boats!

In a tradition unto itself, residents of The Reserve at Lake Keowee enjoyed their 2nd Annual “Jingle All the Way” boat caroling event, “dashing through the lake” amid warm 60-degree temperatures in merry spirit and festive fun.

Four boats carrying 37 carolers participated in this year’s event, which consisted of four planned stops at different Reserve owners’ docks decorated for the occasion. Singing traditional Christmas songs along the way, the carolers docked at sunset at The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s Marina, and walked up to The Village’s Market to enjoy warm house made soups and sandwiches.

The evening ended around a roaring fire, roasting s’mores for dessert. If ever there were a portrait of a quintessential Christmas evening (with a twist), it could certainly have been here.

Trail Treks: The Great Backyard Bird Count

Northern Cardinal found in Lake Keowee, SCAlthough most of the fall color is gone from the trees, there is still a lot to discover out on the nature trails this time of year.  In fact, this time of year is great for bird watching!  Since most of the leaves are gone, you will be able to spot our feathered friends much more easily.  Don’t know what to look for? Read the latest Trail Journal for photos and information about birds like the Northern Cardinal, Red-bellied Woodpecker, and others you will likely see in the Lake Keowee and Upstate, South Carolina areas.

This year, The Reserve’s Community Foundation is making its bird sightings count by participating in “The Great Backyard Bird Count,” led by the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event, February 17-20, which encourages bird watchers of all ages to help survey the birds in their area by identifying and counting them. Bird enthusiasts all across North America will submit their sightings to help create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds!

Last Friday, September 23, The Reserve at Lake Keowee was proud to host Clemson University’s largest annual fundraiser for its golf team – the 9th Annual Tiger Golf Gathering. The Tiger Golf Gathering is a weekend of fun events, beginning with a Pro-Am tournament on our award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and ending with a VIP Silent Auction Party on campus, that have helped fund a total renovation of the Clemson’s golf facilities, including a “second to none” practice area.

This year’s event was especially meaningful as the Clemson Golf Team and its supporters celebrated the grand opening of the course’s Larry B. Penley, Jr. Golf House, a 7,700 square feet, three-story “clubhouse” that will become the home for Clemson University’s golf team.

A total of 108 players participated from across the country. Among those in attendance at this year’s Gathering were Clemson golf alumni and 2009 U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover and PGA TOUR Professional Kyle Stanley.
